Property
management planning is today an important component of running a successful
rural enterprise in Queensland. Producers undertaking forest practices in
remnant (coloured) and non remnant (white / category x) areas of the property
can benefit by developing and maintaining an ongoing forest management plan
component as part of a property management plan. This can assist you to plan
and manage this timber resource, as part of the property enterprise.
In 2006 AgForests engaged three forest management planning consultants to develop Forest Production Property Management Plans for eight key producers across southern Queensland.
In 2007 these Plans were revised to better align them with achieving forest certification under an internationally recognised forest certification scheme (Australian Forestry Standard – AS4708 and/or Forest Stewardship Council – FSC) in the future, either individually, or as part of a forest certified producers group.
AgForests has developed an example Forest Production Property Management Plan to show what information is generally included and required to assist obtaining forest certification.
